Biography:
Maleah Welsh is a photographer and filmmaker from Santa Cruz California. After traveling for two years she returned to the Bay Area and received a BA in cinema from San Francisco State University. Growing up in Santa Cruz she moved frequently which brought up questions about belonging, home, and how society thinks about people who do not have a concrete place within it. She is very interested in exploring mixed media both analog and digital, playing with sound, still and moving images and combining them to create a new experience. Her focus lies in community outreach and utilizing film and photography to create more understanding between vastly different groups of people. For her thesis she will be working with the unhoused community in Santa Cruz and grounding her work in personal stories and experiences.
