Research Interests: 

Current research interests include signal materialism, information embodiment, theories of projection, critiques of new media/art and technology, the anthropocene, acoustic ecologies, and video histories.

Biography: 
Elia Vargas is an Oakland based artist and curator. He works in video, sound, and situational experiences exploring signal flow and mediated information embodiment. Using materials ranging from water and light, plastics and steel, digital code and analog hardware, to site specific architecture, objects, and organisms, Vargas explores everyday visible and invisible forces that shape our internal and external ecologies. He has collaborated with a wide range of artists and musicians including Bjork, Vincent Moon, and many others. He performs and exhibits work locally and internationally. He is co-founder and co-curator of the Living Room Light Exchange, a monthly salon on art and technology; half of improvisational modular synthesis duo systemritual; board member of Mediate Art Group, organizer of the Soundwave Biennial; and a PhD student in Film and Digital Media at UC Santa Cruz. www.eliavargas.com www.livingroomlightexchange.com
