  • Melanie Ho (class of 2020) was nominated in the Shorts category (not the student category) for her 2020 SocDoc MFA thesis film sống ở đây at the International Documentary Association Awards.
  • Melanie Ho is also one of six Asian American filmmakers from the South selected for a nine month inaugural  fellowship with the Center for Asian American Media.
  • 2019 SocDoc alum Marrok Sedgwick was nominated for the David L. Wolper Student Documentary Award at the International Documentary Association Awards.  
  • "People Like Me," the Social Documentation MFA thesis film directed by Marrok Sedgwick was just awarded Best Short by the American Anthropology Association's film festival (story here).
  • Filmmakers Michelle Aguilar (class of 2015) and Andrés Camacho (class of 2020) will discuss their films' themes of sustainability, food security, and impacts on indigenous cultures and communities—through the lens of climate change at UCSC's Sustainability On Film festival on April 28.  Admission is free and open to the public.
