Film series curated by Prof. Peter Limbrick

Assoc. Prof. of Film and Digital Media Peter Limbrick has curated a retrospective series of films by Moroccan filmmaker Moumen Smihi beginning on October 10 at the Pacific Film Archive, Berkeley, and continuing until October 27. A filmmaker and foundational figure of the “New Arab Cinema” of the Maghreb (Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia) that began in the 1970s, Smihi is one of the most important Arab filmmakers working today, with a long pedigree of exceptional films that are as fearless in their ideas as they are quietly radical in their form. The series features six features and a short film, and includes several new prints subtitled in English for the first time and a newly digitized short film. Many of the films will be West Coast or US premieres. Prof. Limbrick will be introducing several of the screenings and will be present in an "Afterimage" on-stage conversation with Smihi on October 24.
