Tadashi Nakamura

"A Song for Ourselves" chronicles the cultural legacy of the early Asian American Movement (1968-1978) through the multifaceted life of the late Chris Iijima, a Japanese American songwriter, elementary school teacher and law professor who put its passion into song and gave generations of Asian Americans something to sing about. Tadashi Nakamura received a media grant from Center for Asian American Media with funds from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting for the completion of A Song For Ourselves. The grants are highly competitive professional grants to projects intended for national broadcast on PBS. Tadashi is currently directing a full-length documentary on ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro. The film is being produced by the Center for Asian American Media.
