This class considers Chinese cinema in the international circuit, starting from its burgeoning stage to the present day. It engages with issues including development of cinematic technology, genre adaptation, stylistic shifts, modes of production (independent and commercial, national and coproduction), linguistic and cultural politics. This class helps students to interrogate the concept of national cinema through its inherent international and transnational configuration
