Isabella De la Hoz holds a bachelor's degree in Visual Arts from Universidad del Valle (Cali, Colombia) and is currently pursuing an MFA in Social Documentation at UC Santa Cruz. Her experience in documentary filmmaking ranges from recording expressions of social movements—such as the university student movement and the national strike in Colombia in 2021—as a founding member of the Espiral Media collective, to conducting research on women’s roles within the drug trafficking phenomenon. She has also been involved in documenting the ballroom scene in Cali from its inception to the present day.
Her current research and documentation focus on feminism, memory, archival footage, Latin American and Latinx Studies, and queer theory. Her current research project explores the organizing processes of women in communities along Colombia’s Pacific coast around viche, an ancestral beverage of great cultural, economic, and political importance to these communities.
