M.F.A. Thesis Screening Website Now Live

The annual Social Documentation Graduate Exhibition website is now live for viewing at socdoc.ucsc.edu/screeningThis exhibition presents premieres of new master's thesis documentaries by nine graduating students in the Social Documentation M.F.A. program at UC Santa Cruz. These documentaries are the culmination of an intense two years of immersion into the art of documentary media and craft, scholarly research and analysis, nonfiction storytelling, and the politics of representation. The screening is available online for unlimited worldwide access until Monday, August 31, 2020.

Director of Graduate Studies Jennifer Maytorena Taylor offers her own applause. "On behalf of all the faculty who have worked with these hard-working and talented filmmakers and multi-media artists, I congratulate them all for their persistence and strong commitment to crafting cinematic stories centered on free expression and human rights, in an astonishing range of places and communities."

These new media makers are trained to go "beyond the story,’ according to the program's tagline, documenting communities, cultures, issues, and individuals who are marginalized in the current landscapes of representation, and the films shown on this new website are the finished results of these studies.  Please join us in viewing and celebrating their work.
