Film and Digital Media majors participated in a special summer abroad program with Professors Shelley Stamp and Jennifer Horne in Bologna, Italy, where they attended the Il Cinema Ritrovato film festival. Programmed over 9 days, the Ritrovato is the world's premiere festival of film preservation. 400+ films are shown in 6 cinemas and in the city's historic outdoor piazza. Renowned for its curatorial leadership, the festival features the premiers of restored prints and rare gems of mainstream, arthouse, experimental, and early film, giving students a fully programmed tour of international cinema. Evenings during the festival include special presentations of films outside under the stars. Festival attendees enjoy live musical accompaniment, panels, lectures, and themed programs that provide students with in-depth knowledge of fascinating strands of international film history. Following the film festival, students remained in Bologna for in-depth classes with Professors Stamp and Horne.
