We're excited to announce the Trans Justice Forum at UC Santa Cruz in Communications Studio C on Wednesday, June 12th! 

This event will feature conversations with eight incredible speakers fighting for trans liberation during the rise in violence against trans women of color. Bringing together activists and scholars, the event centers on visions of border and prison abolition in relation to trans justice. Speakers will be in dialogue with one another along with the audience as they share their stories, experiences, and research. 

Schedule:

  • 11:45-12:30 – Lunch
  • 12:30-1:00 – Keynote by Isa Noyola (Mijente & El/La Para TransLatinas)"Trans Liberation in Times of Crisis and Violence"
  • 1:00-2:15 – Undoing Borders Panel Featuring Victoria Castro (El/La Para TransLatinas), Isa Noyola, and Jessica Catalaya (El/La Para TransLatinas Participant), Moderated by Marcia Ochoa (UC Santa Cruz, Feminist Studies)
  •  2:15-3:30 – Dismantling Prisons Panel featuring Janetta Johnson (TGIJP), Savannah Shange (UC Santa Cruz, Anthropology and Critical Race and Ethnic Studies), and Colby Lenz (co-founder and organizer, Survived & Punished), moderated by SA Smythe (African American Studies, UCLA)
  • 3:30-4:30 – Forum hors d’oeuvres and social
