Join us for a special Wednesday Night Cinema Society screening of "The Walking Kids of Choco" with FDM PhD candidate Rolando Vargas, which was just screened at Cannes! 

The Walking Kids of Choco
In the middle of the Darien Gap Jungle, in the border separating Colombia from Panama, lives an indigenous community, the Kuna people.  Some of thier children are being sent to high school in the nearest town, the reason: the lack of high schools in the village.  Edinson, has taken the decision of finishing high school in Unguia.  His displacement is not only physical but also cultural.  An insight into the lives of indigenous children that must walk to school for four hours daily to get educated in a different culture.  This documentary explores their motivation and how they manage the complete equilibrium between tradition and modernity.  

Earth's Children
Early in the morning, young Jorge sets off with his machete to harvest bananas, making every blow count.  After the bananas have been boiled its time for breakfast.  After that, Jorge and his friends are free to wander the lush vegetation that surrounds their home, climbing, having fun, singing harvest songs and splashing abou in the headwates of the Amazon.  Seen through the eyes of children, these everyday scenes describe the peaceful lives of an indigenous village community in the midst of their primeval environment.
