Internationally acclaimed filmmaker Paul Festa presents his award-winning films Apparition of the Eternal Church and The Glitter Emergency with live organ accompaniment by Gianni Staiano of Santa Cruz Hammond organ trio 7 Come 11 and live violin accompaniment by the filmmaker. Apparition captures the confrontation between the music of Olivier Messiaen and thirty-one commentators, including filmmaker John Cameron Mitchell, literary critic Harold Bloom, Pulitzer-nominated playwright Eisa Davis, Tony-nominated drag artist Justin Bond, and the late harpsichord master Albert Fuller. The Glitter Emergency is at once a screwball-comedy homage to silent film, a mash-up of drag and ballet, and a reinvention of the music video genre for a classical masterpiece, Tchaikovsky’s rousing violin concerto.
This free event will take place on Thursday March 17th from 7 – 9 PM in the First Congregational Church at 900 High Street, a short walk from UCSC.
