Research Interests: Representations of aid workers and populations served by the humanitarian industry, the formation and performance of humanitarian identity, ramifications of COVID-19, the rural American experience, experiences of gender-based disparities in the treatment of pain, and determinants of audience attitude and behavior change related to encounters with documentary media.
Ruth Anne Beutler grew up in rural Nebraska and since has lived, traveled, studied, and worked in Europe, Africa, Latin America, and on the East and West coasts of the US. She currently works as a registered nurse with a professional background in emergency, community, humanitarian, and public health nursing. Her personal and professional experiences have coincided with a passion for documentary film to allow her to participate in work addressing genocide and mass atrocity through awareness and advocacy as a videographer and media events coordinator.
