El País de la Yuca ('The Country of Yuca') is a documentary about my journey back to my native Ecuador in order to explore and portray the ways in which the daily lives of the Shuar people of the southeastern region of the country have been drastically changed as they have adjusted to the gradual destruction of the rainforest by industrial operations in their territory. It includes not only my own ideas and views that arose during my negotiations with the Shuar as an outsider in their culture, but also offers an insider's view of the larger world through the eyes of the Shuar themselves, focusing on their cultural traditions, their religious beliefs, their extremely close relationship with nature, their social and family structures, and the customs and pace of their daily lives.
