Bienvenido (Video)
Bienvenido is a 24-minute documentary film that follows 14-year-old Bienvenido Anderson while he is trapped in summer school after failing all of his classes as a 7th grader. It raises the question of whether or not the formal education system is failing adolescent boys. This film is in the final stages of post-production, and is being prepared for distribution. Mara received her Master's degree in Social Documentation from the University of California, Santa Cruz in June, 2010. She is in the post-production stages of her documentary film Bienvenido! Before pursuing a career in documentary filmmaking, Mara received a Master's of Science in Teaching while she taught English as a Second Language in New York City. She has found a happy medium pursuing work in both the academic and filmmaking sectors.
