A huge congratulations to Isabelle Carbonell (FDM, PhD) for receiving a 2019 Princess Grace Award!
Isabelle received this prestigious (and very competitive) award in support of her film, The Blooming, an experimental documentary feature which explores how the Mar Menor lagoon, located on the Iberian Peninsula and separated from the Mediterranean by a thin slice of sand, went to the brink of extinction. With a focus on jellyfish, the film explores the ways that human and nonhuman histories in Mar Menor deeply intertwine to tell the larger story of homo sapiens’ cumulative effects on the environment over time.
