Social Documentation at the 2017 Watsonville Film Festival

The Wastsonville Film Festival takes place on October 5-8th, and we will have many SocDoc and FDM alums that will be participating: 

Tadashi Nakamura (SocDoc MA 2008) will be screening his film MELE MURALS on Saturday, October 7 at 5pm.  Tad is also the recipient of the 2017 WFF Inspirational Filmmaker Award, and will be leading a master class on documentary filmmaking at the festival on Sunday, October 8 at 1pm.  This and other master class workshops during the festival are FREE and OPEN TO STUDENTS UNDER 24 YEARS OF AGE.  

Four of our alums will also be screening their films during the JOURNEYS/VIAJES showcase on Sunday, Oct. 8: 

  • Brenda Avila-Hanna (SocDoc MA 2013) and Kati Greaney (SocDoc MA 2013) will be screening their short documentary SANTA CRUZ ICE RAID 
  • Samuel Contreras (SocDoc MFA 2017) will be screening his short documentary THE BATTLE FOR MATHENY TRACT 
  • Vanessa Cano (FDM BA 2017) will be screening her short film KAREN 

SocDoc alums Brenda Avila-Hanna and Dana Forsberg (SocDoc MA 2013) and FDM alum Alex Santana Jr. (FDM BA 2014) are also part of the production team running the festival this year.
