NO TIME LIKE THE PRESENT
an evening with Julia Meltzer

Julia Meltzer, filmmaker and artist, will show work from her time spent in Syria and elsewhere produced over the last decade.  Many of her projects take up the question of time - past and present - and how the process of documenting events allows us to revisit the past and see into the future.

Julia Meltzer is an artist and filmmaker living in Los Angeles.  Her work with David Thorne has been exhibited at the Whitney Biennial, the Sharjah Biennial, The Toronto International Film Festival, and the Rotterdam International Film Festival.  Most recently, she directed and produced THE LIGHT IN HER EYES, a feature documentary, which was broadcast nationally as part of the 25th anniversary seson of POV on PBS.  Meltzer is a recipient of grants from Art Matters, the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundations, the Rockefeller Media Arts Fellowship, the John Simon Memorial Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship, and was a Senior Fullbright Fellow in Damascus, Syria in 2005-06.  She will be a Fullbright Fellow in the West Bank in 2014.
