On the occasion of UCSC Film and Digital Media faculty member Greg Youmans's new book, Word is Out: A Queer Film Classic (Arsenal Pulp Press, 2011) there will be a screening of the groundbreaking 1977 gay and lesbian documentary Word is Out: Stories of Some of Our Lives, followed by a lecture and discussion about the making of the film, its role in the gay-rights struggles of the late 1970s, and its influence on the history of LGBT representation.  

The event is supported by the Cantu Queer Center, the Department of Film and Digital Media, and the History of Consciousness Department.
