Denise McKenna's primary research area focuses on the cultural politics and gender dynamics of the early American film industry’s social and economic integration with Los Angeles during the 1910s. Her other areas of interest include pre-cinema and 19th century visual culture; feminist historiography and popular culture; action films; gender and media labor
