This seminar will take on contemporary issues in digital media through interdisciplinary readings, viewings, and listenings from disciplines including media theory, critical theory, surveillance studies, operational and information security, infrastructure studies, art history, and software studies to examine how technology impacts privacy and the public sphere. We will study and develop conceptual frameworks to better understand the tools and technologies we use and are subject to every day.  We will pay particular attention to critical engagements and interventions in these issues by artists representing a variety of methods and mediums.
